Applied Optoelectronics Inc. (AAOI) announced a first‑time volume order for its 1.6‑terabit (1.6‑T) data‑center transceivers from a long‑time hyperscale customer, with the order valued at more than $200 million. Shipments are scheduled to begin in early Q3 2026 and will be completed by Q4 2026, giving the company a clear revenue stream for the second half of the year.

The order is expected to bring the hyperscale client back to a 10 %+ share of AAOI’s revenue, a significant lift in customer concentration that underscores the company’s growing influence in the high‑bandwidth data‑center market. The 1.6‑T transceivers are engineered to support next‑generation AI training workloads, positioning AAOI at the forefront of the AI infrastructure boom.

AAOI’s vertically integrated laser and transceiver technology is designed to address the industry’s emerging EML laser shortage, giving the company a competitive moat in a market where supply constraints are tightening. The new order validates this technology and demonstrates the company’s ability to secure large contracts from key hyperscale customers.

The volume order supports AAOI’s aggressive capacity expansion plan, which targets production of over 500,000 combined 800G and 1.6‑T units per month by the end of 2026. The company’s investment in U.S. and overseas facilities is aimed at meeting the growing demand for high‑speed optics in AI data centers.

"We are seeing a clear progression toward higher‑speed optics as AI clusters scale, and our transceiver portfolio enables our customers to order both 400G and 800G or 1.6T from us," said Dr. Thompson Lin, Founder, Chairman, and CEO. "The initial order from this long‑time customer totaling more than $200 million, is expected to return this customer to its previous status as a 10 %+ customer for AAOI," added Dr. Stefan Murry, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Strategy Officer. "Following product qualifications, shipments are expected to begin early in the third quarter of 2026 and should be complete in Q4 of this year."
