Applied Optoelectronics, Inc. (AAOI) received a $20,852,518 grant from the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF) to support the construction of a 210,000‑square‑foot manufacturing facility adjacent to its Sugar Land headquarters. The award, announced on April 29, 2026, will enable the company to build one of the largest U.S. production capacities for AI‑focused data‑center transceivers.

The new plant will add more than 500 high‑skill jobs to the region and will allow AAOI to scale production of its 800 G and 1.6 T transceivers to an estimated 700,000 units per month, positioning the company to meet the growing demand from hyperscalers and to reduce reliance on overseas supply chains.

AAOI’s Q4 2025 results showed GAAP revenue of $134.3 million, up from $100.3 million in Q4 2024, and a GAAP net loss of $2.0 million versus a $119.7 million loss the prior year. Non‑GAAP net loss was $0.6 million. Data‑center revenue accounted for $74.9 million of the $134.3 million total, while CATV revenue was $54 million. Non‑GAAP gross margin rose to 31.4 percent from 28.9 percent, reflecting a stronger mix of high‑margin AI products and improved operational leverage.

Stefan Murry, CFO and Chief Strategy Officer, said, “The support from the State of Texas is critical to our expansion plans and is a tangible commitment by the state to advancing semiconductor innovation.” He added that the grant “aligns with the 2027 capacity targets we outlined on our most recent earnings call and represents the next step in our strategy to become the premier high‑volume U.S. producer of AI‑focused data center transceivers and optics.”

The announcement was met with a positive market reaction, with analysts noting the grant’s impact on AAOI’s expansion and competitive positioning. The award is expected to strengthen the company’s ability to serve hyperscalers with U.S.‑based production and to capture a larger share of the 800 G and 1.6 T transceiver market.

AAOI’s guidance for 2026 remains bullish, with management projecting over $1 billion in revenue and a continued focus on scaling AI infrastructure products. The TSIF grant provides the capital needed to accelerate the company’s Texas expansion, reduce supply‑chain risk, and reinforce its position as a key supplier to the AI data‑center ecosystem.
