Axcelis Technologies confirmed that the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has approved its greenhouse‑gas reduction plan, which commits the company to net‑zero emissions across its entire value chain by 2050. The approved targets set a 65.88% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030, a 90.0% cut by 2050, and a 51.6% reduction in Scope 3 emissions—use of sold products—by 2030 with a 97.0% cut by 2050, all measured against a 2022 base year.

The SBTi is a globally recognized standard that requires companies to set science‑aligned targets that are consistent with limiting global warming to 1.5 °C. Approval confirms that Axcelis’s targets meet the rigorous scientific criteria, giving stakeholders confidence that the company’s climate strategy is credible and measurable.

"Axcelis is proud to take a leading role in the industry to drive efforts to mitigate climate change. Holding ourselves accountable to drive sustainable growth is at the heart of what we do at Axcelis. These goals are just one part of Axcelis' Purpose, to passionately innovate with our customers, delivering technology for a sustainable future," said Dr. Russell Low, President and CEO.

The company’s strong financial footing supports its sustainability ambitions. Axcelis reported more than $100 million of free cash flow in the most recent quarter and has returned over $120 million to shareholders, while maintaining a cash‑to‑debt ratio that keeps its balance sheet robust. The firm’s current ratio of 4.77 further underscores its capacity to invest in low‑carbon initiatives without compromising liquidity.

Axcelis is also in the final stages of a merger with Veeco, expected to close in the second half of 2026. The combined entity will broaden its product portfolio and enhance its market reach, positioning the company to meet growing demand for advanced semiconductor equipment in AI, electrification, and next‑generation devices.

Axcelis will report progress on these targets in its annual Sustainability Report, providing transparent updates on emissions reductions, renewable energy adoption, and process improvements. The SBTi approval is expected to strengthen the company’s reputation among environmentally conscious customers and investors, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable growth.

The approval marks a significant milestone in Axcelis’s sustainability journey, aligning its operations with the most stringent climate science and setting a clear path toward net‑zero emissions. The company’s financial strength, strategic merger, and transparent reporting framework position it well to deliver on these ambitious goals while maintaining competitive advantage in the semiconductor industry.
