ADT Inc. announced a $170 million cash acquisition of Origin Wireless, Inc., doing business as Origin AI, on February 24 2026. The deal brings Origin AI’s Wi‑Fi sensing platform—capable of detecting human presence and motion without cameras—into ADT’s security ecosystem, adding a privacy‑focused, camera‑free sensing capability that can reduce false alarms and improve alarm verification.

Under the transaction, ADT, Origin AI and European‑Latin American monitoring provider Verisure signed a five‑year renewable commercial agreement. The agreement is valued at $30 million over five years for development services and includes a per‑household activation fee. Verisure will continue to license Origin AI’s technology for its customers in Europe and Latin America, extending the reach of the platform beyond the U.S. market.

Strategically, the acquisition accelerates ADT’s shift toward an AI‑enabled security platform. Origin AI’s technology enables new use cases such as occupancy‑based automation and aging‑in‑place solutions, allowing ADT to add context to alarm events and deliver a smarter, safer home experience. The move strengthens ADT’s competitive moat against do‑it‑yourself and SaaS security solutions by offering a differentiated, privacy‑centric sensing layer that complements its existing monitoring and installation services.

Financially, the $170 million cash outlay is modest relative to ADT’s scale. The company reported $4.898 billion in revenue for 2024, $1.3 billion in Q3 2025, and $5.113 billion in trailing‑twelve‑month revenue as of September 30 2025. The acquisition is expected to launch new offerings in 2027, positioning ADT to monetize its AI platform and enhance its long‑term growth prospects.

Management highlighted the strategic importance of the deal. Omar Khan, ADT’s Executive Vice President and Chief Business Officer, said, "This acquisition represents a major step forward in our vision to deliver a safer, smarter home that understands context, recognizes risk, and provides peace of mind, all while protecting customer privacy." Spencer Maid, President and CEO of Origin AI, added, "Joining ADT allows our AI platform to scale across millions of homes, combining enhanced situational awareness with unmatched monitoring expertise. Together, we will move the industry to continuous, meaningful home awareness."
