Adtran Holdings announced that it has been selected by Italy’s wholesale‑only fiber operator FiberCop to supply optical transport for a country‑wide metro rollout. The partnership will deploy Adtran’s FSP 3000 open optical transport platform, including AccessFlex™ and M‑Flex800™ terminals, to deliver 100 Gbit/s and 400 Gbit/s DWDM connectivity across Italy’s metro network.

The deal represents a substantial revenue opportunity for Adtran, expanding its presence in the European metro market and reinforcing its position as a leading provider of open, disaggregated networking solutions. By leveraging its Mosaic Network Controller software and coherent 100ZR pluggable optics, Adtran will provide FiberCop with space‑efficient, power‑efficient, and highly automated 100 Gbit/s links that can be scaled to 400 Gbit/s as demand grows. The contract is expected to accelerate Adtran’s growth in the region and drive further adoption of its optical transport portfolio.

FiberCop’s strategy is to scale open‑access connectivity nationwide, and Adtran’s technology is positioned to support that growth while enabling future service expansion. The open‑access model allows multiple operators to share the same infrastructure, reducing capital costs and speeding deployment. Adtran’s FSP 3000 platform, combined with its SD‑N controlled Mosaic Network Controller, offers the flexibility and automation needed for a national‑scale rollout, making the partnership a natural fit for FiberCop’s expansion plans.

Adtran’s CTO Christoph Glingener said the technology “provides the performance, space efficiency and automation capabilities FiberCop needs to accelerate deployment and streamline operations.” GM of EMEA and APAC sales Stuart Broome added that the deployment “showcases the power of our open optical and software platforms to meet national‑scale challenges.” The contract underscores Adtran’s commitment to open‑access networks and signals confidence in its ability to win large, long‑term projects in Europe.

The win places Adtran ahead of competitors such as Nokia, Ericsson, and Huawei in the Italian metro transport market. By securing a nationwide contract, Adtran gains a foothold that could lead to additional opportunities across Europe, while FiberCop benefits from a proven, scalable solution that supports Italy’s digital infrastructure goals under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
