Akamai Technologies announced a new data communications contract vehicle with the State of Montana, creating a pre‑competed, compliance‑enabling pathway for state and local agencies and educational institutions to acquire the company’s security and cloud‑computing solutions.

The agreement will allow Montana agencies to access Akamai’s industry‑leading services without the traditional, time‑consuming bidding process. Carahsoft will fulfill orders and provide technical guidance, positioning Akamai as a key partner for government digital transformation. "Government agencies and schools need immediate access to industry‑leading cloud and security tools without the administrative hurdles of traditional bidding. We provide the essential cloud infrastructure and security architecture that both protects citizen data and helps enable government services for resilience, scalability, and performance," said Rob San Martin, Vice President of Public Sector at Akamai.

The contract expands Akamai’s public‑sector presence and opens a new revenue stream, reinforcing its strategy to grow cloud‑infrastructure and security services. "By adding Akamai's portfolio to this Montana vehicle, we give our public sector customers a proven, competitive edge in securing their digital transformation initiatives," added Andres Azcuna, Sales Director at Carahsoft.

On April 2 2026, Robert W. Baird downgraded Akamai’s rating to Neutral from Outperform, citing valuation concerns and a more balanced risk‑reward profile after a strong rally. The downgrade was driven by the company’s high multiples and not directly by the Montana contract.
