Amentum Holdings, Inc. has been selected as the program delivery partner for the first deployments of Rolls‑Royce’s 470 MWe Small Modular Reactor (SMR) in the United Kingdom and the Czech Republic. The partnership gives Amentum responsibility for integration, oversight, governance, construction management and execution of the SMR projects, positioning the company as the key delivery partner for this next‑generation nuclear technology.

The UK deployment will deliver up to 1.5 GW of low‑carbon electricity to the national grid, while the Czech project, in partnership with ČEZ Group, aims to deploy up to 3 GW of SMR capacity. The collaboration is expected to create more than 8,000 long‑term British jobs and is aligned with the UK’s net‑zero strategy and the Czech Republic’s energy‑security objectives. Construction is slated to begin in the mid‑2020s, with first‑in‑service dates projected for the mid‑2030s in both countries.

Amentum’s nuclear focus has deepened over the past decade, highlighted by the opening of a Nuclear Center of Excellence in Oak Ridge and its role as a program and project‑management partner for the Sizewell C nuclear power station. The SMR partnership expands a $45 billion backlog that Amentum reported in September 2024 and positions the company to capture a market that analysts project could reach $295 billion by 2043, with a CAGR of 30%. The deal therefore strengthens Amentum’s high‑margin, long‑duration revenue stream and enhances its competitive position in the growing SMR sector.

John Heller, Amentum CEO, said the partnership “advances the deployment of transformational technology that is critical to strengthening energy security in the UK and continental Europe. Amentum’s expertise in complex energy infrastructure delivery will be instrumental in bringing these SMRs to life.” Senior Vice President Loren Jones added that the collaboration will “create new jobs in the UK over the next four years and support our growth plan in the nuclear and critical infrastructure space.”

Analysts have responded positively to the announcement. Citizens’ analysts raised their price target to $40, citing the strategic fit and the growing SMR market, while BofA Securities increased its target to $30. The partnership is viewed as a significant step toward diversifying Amentum’s portfolio and capitalizing on the UK’s and Czech Republic’s commitment to low‑carbon power.

The partnership underscores a broader trend of governments investing in SMR technology to meet decarbonization mandates and enhance energy security. By leveraging Rolls‑Royce’s factory‑built, modular design—where 90% of the reactor is built off‑site—Amentum can reduce construction risk and accelerate deployment, positioning both companies to capture a substantial share of the projected SMR market growth.
