Amentum, through its joint venture Litmus Nuclear with Cavendish Nuclear, has been awarded a $406 million contract to serve as the owner’s engineer for the United Kingdom’s first small modular reactor (SMR) program at Wylfa in North Wales. The contract, which can span up to 14 years, will support the deployment of Rolls‑Royce’s 470 MW SMR technology and is a key milestone in the UK’s clean‑energy strategy.

The award places Amentum at the center of a rapidly expanding SMR market, reinforcing its high‑margin engineering portfolio. In the first quarter of fiscal 2026, Amentum reported revenue of $3.24 billion and Adjusted EBITDA of $263 million, an 8.1% margin, while its backlog stood at $47.2 billion as of January 2 2026. The new contract adds a significant, long‑term revenue stream to that pipeline and underscores the company’s ability to secure large, strategic projects.

Loren Jones, senior vice president and head of Amentum’s Energy & Environment‑International business, said the award “recognizes Amentum’s expertise to accelerate the global expansion and revitalization of nuclear energy. It also underscores our central role in advancing the UK’s nuclear ambitions, complementing our ongoing work at Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C.” Chief executive John Heller noted that Amentum is “well positioned to benefit from tailwinds in key strategic growth areas, including global nuclear energy, critical digital infrastructure, and space systems and technology.”

The Wylfa SMR site was announced by the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero in November 2025, and Rolls‑Royce was selected as the preferred SMR technology partner in June 2025. A final investment decision is expected in 2029, with operations projected to begin in the mid‑2030s. SMRs offer smaller, factory‑built units that can be deployed faster and at lower capital cost than traditional large‑scale plants, making them attractive to governments seeking rapid, low‑carbon power solutions.

While other SMR developers are active worldwide, the UK’s selection of Rolls‑Royce and the partnership with Amentum’s Litmus Nuclear joint venture position the company favorably in a competitive landscape. Amentum’s prior experience on large nuclear projects such as Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C provides credibility and technical depth that support the SMR program’s success.

The contract’s value and duration strengthen Amentum’s backlog and demonstrate its capacity to win and deliver on high‑profile, long‑term engineering engagements. It also signals confidence from the Great British Energy‑Nuclear (GBE‑N) program, which is using the contract to advance its final investment decision and accelerate the UK’s transition to low‑carbon nuclear power.

Overall, the award underscores Amentum’s growing role in the UK’s nuclear ambitions and highlights the broader momentum behind SMR technology as a cornerstone of the country’s clean‑energy future.
