Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Limited (AOSL) opened its Kaynes Semicon OSAT facility in Sanand, Gujarat, on April 14, 2026. The new plant is designed for high‑volume production of the company’s Intelligent Power Module (IPM5) line, which integrates 17 different dies into a single package for motor control and energy‑efficient appliances.

The inauguration, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, underscores AOSL’s strategic expansion into India and its alignment with the India Semiconductor Mission. By adding a high‑volume manufacturing hub, the company can scale production of its IPM5 modules, a key product that supports the company’s transition from commodity components to total‑solution offerings in data centers and consumer electronics.

Financially, the company reported Q2 FY2026 revenue of $162.3 million, a 6.3% decline year‑over‑year and 11.1% sequentially. GAAP gross margin fell to 21.5% from 23.5% in the prior quarter, reflecting higher input and operational costs. Net loss for the quarter was $13.3 million. Management guided for Q3 FY2026 revenue of approximately $160 million, plus or minus $10 million, and a GAAP gross margin of 20.2% plus or minus 1%, signaling continued margin compression.

Segment performance highlights that Power IC revenue rose 37.3% year‑over‑year to a record high, representing nearly 40% of total product revenue. Computing and Communications growth offset softness in Consumer and Power Supply and Industrial segments, illustrating the company’s ability to balance its portfolio while pursuing higher‑margin opportunities.

CEO Stephen Chang noted that “growth in Computing and Communications offset softness in Consumer and Power Supply and Industrial.” The company also emphasized its long‑term vision: “At Alpha and Omega Semiconductor (AOS), our core charter has always been to deliver innovative power management solutions that push the boundaries of efficiency. Today, that vision expands globally with a strategic new foothold in India.”

The facility’s opening is expected to increase AOSL’s production capacity, support its strategic shift toward application‑specific solutions, and position the company to capture growing demand for energy‑efficient power modules in both domestic and global markets.
