American Outdoor Brands, Inc. (AOUT) filed a U.S. District Court complaint on April 1 2026 alleging that Eposeidon Outdoor Adventure, Inc. and KastKing Fishing Tackle, Inc. are infringing on the company’s patents covering its BUBBA® multi‑flex interchangeable fillet knife line. The complaint cites U.S. Patent Nos. 12,285,879 and 12,441,011 and seeks injunctive relief, monetary damages, and a finding of willful infringement. The lawsuit is a direct response to the defendants’ continued sale of allegedly infringing fillet knife kits, which AOUT claims dilute its brand and erode market share in the fishing accessories segment.

AOUT’s CEO, Brian Murphy, said, "We filed this action because we believe KastKing has deliberately copied these patented innovations and continued selling the infringing products despite repeated notice." He added, "Protecting our intellectual property is essential not only to our business, but to maintaining a fair and competitive marketplace for innovation. Over the past five years, we have grown our patent portfolio by more than 50%, and that portfolio now exceeds 400 active or pending patents. We remain committed to enforcing our patents and will take decisive action when necessary to protect the integrity of our brands and the trust our customers place in BUBBA® and all of our products."

The lawsuit underscores AOUT’s commitment to defending its intellectual property and brand integrity, particularly for its BUBBA® line. By targeting the Flex‑Change® locking system—a key feature of the fillet knife line—AOUT seeks to deter competitors from copying its proprietary technology. The legal action could influence future sales of BUBBA products and alter competitive dynamics within the outdoor accessories market, though the company has not disclosed specific financial projections related to the lawsuit’s outcome.

AOUT reported a Q3 2026 earnings beat, with earnings per share of $0.12 versus the $0.07 forecast and revenue of $56.6 million versus the $55.16 million anticipated. The company did not disclose specific drivers for the beat, but the filing of the lawsuit and the company’s strong patent portfolio suggest a focus on protecting its market position and maintaining profitability in a competitive environment.
