FCC Chairman Announces Vote to Expand Anterix’s 900 MHz Band to 10 MHz

The FCC announced on January 27 that it will vote on an order to expand the 900‑MHz broadband segment from 6 MHz to 10 MHz, a change that would give Anterix and its utility customers an additional 4 MHz of spectrum for private LTE networks. The vote is scheduled for the FCC’s Open Commission Meeting on February 18.

The expansion directly increases the amount of spectrum Anterix can lease to utilities, allowing those customers to build higher‑capacity, more reliable private LTE networks. A larger bandwidth translates into higher data rates, lower latency, and the ability to support more connected devices, which is critical for grid modernization, smart‑city deployments, and emergency response.

Anterix’s core business is the leasing of licensed 900‑MHz spectrum to utilities and other critical‑infrastructure operators. The company has recently launched TowerX, a partnership with Crown Castle that gives its customers access to more than 40,000 tower sites, and CatalyX, a SIM and eSIM management platform that simplifies device connectivity. In addition, Anterix has been actively exchanging narrowband licenses for broadband spectrum, a strategy that has generated significant gains and expanded its portfolio.

The company reported a Q2 FY26 earnings season that beat expectations. Revenue of $1.55 million exceeded the consensus estimate of $1.43 million, driven by strong demand from utility customers and a favorable mix of high‑margin contracts. Earnings per share of ($0.14) outperformed the consensus estimate of ($0.65), a beat of $0.51, largely due to disciplined cost management and the absence of one‑time charges. Anterix maintains a debt‑free balance sheet, a healthy cash position, and an active share‑repurchase program.

Christopher Guttman‑McCabe, Anterix’s Chief Regulatory and Corporate Communications Officer, said the FCC’s decision “builds on the success of the 2020 action and positions Anterix to help utilities modernize their communications infrastructure.” He added that the expanded spectrum will enable utilities to deploy more robust private LTE networks and accelerate the adoption of Anterix’s services.
