Broadcom announced the launch of its Arcot Smart Ruleset, an adaptive 3‑D Secure (3DS) ruleset engine that replaces manual fraud‑rule writing with machine‑learning models trained on 20 years of data from more than 5,500 financial institutions in its consortium.

The system has already prevented more than $2 million in fraud losses in its first six months, according to Velera, a financial services provider that adopted the solution. The subscription‑style revenue model allows Broadcom to scale the offering across its consortium and generate recurring income.

The launch expands Broadcom’s software moat beyond networking and semiconductor solutions into the high‑margin payments‑security arena, aligning with the company’s strategy to lock in customers through integrated infrastructure software. The Arcot acquisition in 2010 laid the groundwork for this expansion.

Matt Cooke, Vice President and General Manager of Broadcom’s Payment Security Division, said the ruleset “replaces manual logic with precision decisioning, freeing fraud teams to focus on higher‑value activities.” The product’s AI integration enables continuous learning from billions of transactions, improving fraud detection rates while reducing false declines and friction for merchants.

Industry analysts note that the payments‑security market is driven by rising e‑commerce volume and regulatory pressure for secure authentication. Broadcom’s data consortium and AI capabilities position the Arcot Smart Ruleset to capture a share of this expanding segment, potentially adding a new recurring revenue stream to the company’s portfolio.

While early adoption metrics are limited, the product’s performance at Velera and the breadth of the consortium suggest strong market traction. Broadcom’s broader AI and semiconductor growth provide a backdrop that supports confidence in the new offering’s long‑term potential.
