Broadcom announced the launch of its first 6G digital front‑end (DFE) system‑on‑chip, BroadPeak™. The 5 nm CMOS design integrates a DFE and high‑linearity ADC/DAC blocks on a single die, delivering up to 40 % power reduction compared with existing massive MIMO and remote radio head solutions.
BroadPeak™ operates across 400 MHz to 8.5 GHz, covering the n104 band for 5G Advanced (6.425–7.125 GHz) and the 7–8.5 GHz band earmarked for 6G. The integrated data converters and DFE enable operators to build high‑capacity, high‑throughput base stations that support AI‑driven applications and personalized digital experiences.
The launch expands Broadcom’s portfolio beyond networking and semiconductor solutions into the emerging 6G ecosystem, positioning the company as a key supplier for next‑generation wireless infrastructure. Broadcom’s focus on AI integration is reinforced by the chip’s ability to power AI‑heavy workloads in base stations, and the company has already validated the technology with a partnership that demonstrated interoperability between BroadPeak and Altera’s Agilex™ 7 FPGAs.
Vijay Janapaty, vice president and general manager of Broadcom’s Physical Layer Products Division, said, “With 5G New Radio expanding into the 6 GHz spectrum and above to fuel the surge of AI and data‑heavy applications, the infrastructure behind it must evolve. Our next‑generation Massive MIMO SoCs are engineered to deliver the uncompromising linearity and power efficiency required to power the future of connectivity.” Raghib Hussain, president and CEO of Altera, added, “Our collaboration with Broadcom and the successful interoperability testing between Altera Agilex™ 7 FPGAs and Broadcom BroadPeak SoCs validate a scalable, high‑performance foundation for next‑generation radio platforms, enabling equipment manufacturers and operators to innovate with flexibility and confidence.”
The launch comes amid a broader industry shift toward 5G Advanced and 6G, driven by the explosive growth of AI and data‑heavy applications. Broadcom’s recent financial reports highlighted significant growth in its AI semiconductor revenue, underscoring the company’s strategic push to embed AI capabilities across its product lines.
