Copa Airlines has signed a contract to purchase up to 60 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, a deal valued at a list price of $13.5 billion that will be delivered between 2030 and 2034. The order gives the airline flexibility to choose from the MAX 8, MAX 9 and MAX 10 variants, although the specific mix of aircraft has not yet been disclosed.
The eight‑year agreement will see an average of roughly 12 aircraft delivered each year, beginning in 2030. While the list price is $13.5 billion, airlines typically negotiate discounts, so the actual transaction price is expected to be lower. The deal adds a steady revenue stream for Boeing’s Commercial Airplanes segment and expands its order book in the narrow‑body market.
For Boeing, the order reinforces its position in the competitive narrow‑body segment dominated by Airbus’s A320neo family. In the first quarter of 2026, Boeing’s Commercial Airplanes segment reported revenue of $9.203 billion, up 13% year‑over‑year, but a loss of $563 million, reflecting ongoing cost pressures and the need to invest in production ramp‑up for the 737 MAX program.
Copa Airlines is using the order to modernize and expand its fleet. As of January 1, 2024, the carrier operated 106 aircraft and had 51 firm orders and 6 options for 737 MAX aircraft scheduled for delivery through 2030. By March 2026, Copa serves 88 destinations in 32 countries and aims to exceed 200 aircraft in its fleet by 2034, positioning it as the “Hub of the Americas.”
"Copa is a leader in a dynamic regional aviation market and will continue to be a driver of economic growth throughout the region," said Stephanie Pope, CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "For Copa Airlines, the signing of this agreement represents an important step to continue strengthening the operation and connectivity we provide from Panama," added Pedro Heilbron, CEO of Copa Airlines. H. Lawrence Culp, Jr., CEO of GE Aerospace, noted that the engines will further strengthen the airline’s position in Latin America as it modernizes its route network.
