SCAT Airlines announced that it will add five new Boeing 737‑9 MAX jets to its fleet and convert five previously ordered 737‑8s to the larger 737‑9 variant. The order expands the carrier’s single‑aisle capacity by up to 220 seats per aircraft and extends its range to 6,110 km, enabling new services to Europe and Asia from its Shymkent hub.
The 737‑9 MAX’s 220‑seat configuration and 3,300‑nautical‑mile range make it well suited for SCAT’s strategy of adding “seventh‑freedom” routes that connect Central Asia with major European and Asian destinations. The fleet update will also improve schedule reliability as the airline expands its international network.
"This fleet update allows SCAT Airlines to better meet growing passenger demand while maintaining the flexibility to serve a diverse and expanding route network," said SCAT President Vladimir Denissov. He added that converting the five 737‑8s to 737‑9s, together with the new firm order for five 737‑9s, “enhances our seating capacity per flight and will improve schedule reliability as we expand our international network.”
Boeing views the order as a positive addition to its Commercial Airplanes backlog and a sign of continued demand for the 737‑9. "The 737‑9 offers the right combination of capacity, range and efficiency to help airlines expand their networks while lowering operating costs. We're proud to support SCAT as it connects Central Asia with more destinations across Europe and beyond," said Paul Righi, Boeing Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing for Eurasia, India and South Asia. Boeing’s Q1 2026 earnings showed a 13% increase in Commercial Airplanes revenue to $9.2 billion, with an operating margin of 6.1%, reflecting the company’s ongoing production ramp to 47 aircraft per month by summer 2026. CEO Kelly Ortberg noted, "We're building on our momentum with a strong start to the year and growing record‑breaking backlog across our business, while supporting our customers with inspiring missions like Artemis II. Our production system is very stable. All systems are a go for this next rate increase for us."
The order strengthens Boeing’s position in the high‑density, medium‑haul market and supports its strategy to restore production stability and profitability. For SCAT, the new jets provide the capacity needed to launch longer single‑aisle routes and enhance network flexibility, positioning the carrier as a key connector between Central Asia, Europe and Asia. The collaboration also includes a new MRO center in Shymkent focused on Boeing aircraft, further cementing the partnership and expanding Boeing’s footprint in the region.
