Battalion Oil Corporation announced a 50% increase in its sour‑gas compression capacity, raising flow capability from 35 MMcfd to more than 50 MMcfd across its Ward and Winkler County assets. The expansion is achieved through a long‑term contract that requires no capital outlay, allowing the company to support higher production volumes and accelerate the deployment of new wells in the Delaware Basin.
The new capacity is the result of an accelerated equipment sourcing effort: Battalion secured a built‑for‑purpose compressor through an international search, cutting the typical 18‑ to 36‑month lead time to roughly two months. This move follows the shutdown of the company’s acid‑gas injection facility in August 2025 and is part of a broader midstream transformation that provides redundancy and flexibility for future development activity.
Financially, the contract will modestly increase operating expenses, but Battalion’s well economics remain strong, with current wells reporting over 80% internal rate of return at hedged commodity prices and current well costs. The company’s negative levered free cash flow of $35.48 million and a current ratio of 0.9 indicate short‑term liquidity pressures, yet the expansion is expected to enhance operational resilience and support future growth without adding debt or equity.
CEO Matt Steele said, "We're excited to partner with an industry leader that has a proven track record and is ready to grow with our assets." He added, "The fact that Battalion was able to accelerate throughput capacity by skipping the typical two‑year lead time positions the Company to continue to increase production through current well optimization, new drilling activity and strategic M&A. We look forward to bringing new wells online in 2026."
The expansion positions Battalion to capture higher volumes as drilling activity ramps up in 2026, strengthens its competitive stance in the Delaware Basin, and provides a platform for future strategic acquisitions or divestitures while maintaining a lean capital structure.
