Baxter International Inc. announced the launch of its IV Verify Line Labeling System on March 30, 2026, during the American Organization for Nursing Leadership Conference in Deerfield, Illinois. The new automated solution, developed in partnership with Vigilant Software, replaces handwritten IV line labels with a digital, barcode‑based system that can be printed at the bedside and scanned by nurses to confirm correct medication, dose, and patient identity.
The IV Verify system is designed to cut the time nurses spend on line labeling by one to two minutes per IV setup, according to studies cited by Baxter. By automating the labeling process, the technology aims to reduce medication errors, lower the risk of central line‑associated bloodstream infections, and free clinicians to focus more on patient care rather than paperwork.
Baxter’s move comes as the infusion therapy market continues to grow, with the company holding a 14.8% share of the U.S. market. Competitors such as B. Braun Medical, Medtronic, and ICU Medical also offer digital labeling solutions, but Baxter’s partnership with Vigilant Software positions it to differentiate on ease of use and integration with existing hospital workflows. The launch signals Baxter’s broader strategy to leverage technology to improve clinical efficiency and patient safety.
"Frontline clinicians manage complexity every day, and even small inefficiencies can create risk. The IV Verify system replaces handwritten labels with easy‑to‑use technology that supports consistency, saves time and helps clinicians confidently trace IV lines so they can spend more time focused on their patients," said Athar Mirza, U.S. and Canada general manager of Baxter’s Infusion Therapies and Platforms division.
The IV Verify system is now available in the United States and is expected to be adopted by hospitals seeking to meet regulatory requirements for accurate IV labeling and to reduce costly medication errors. Baxter’s announcement underscores its commitment to supporting bedside nursing staff with tools that enhance safety and operational efficiency.
