Beam Global announced that the European Patent Office granted the company a new patent on January 29, 2026 for its Smart Phase‑Change Composite (PCC™) material, a technology that was previously protected in the United States by U.S. Patent No. 12,422,195.

The PCC™ material functions as an intelligent thermal switch: it insulates lithium‑ion batteries in cold environments while passively cooling them when temperatures rise. The patent covers the composite’s unique phase‑change behavior, enabling safer, more reliable battery performance in extreme climates and mission‑critical applications such as robotics, drones, electric‑mobility, and defense systems.

By securing European protection, Beam Global can now defend its competitive moat in a key global market and pursue new commercial and defense customers that require robust battery solutions. The patent directly supports the company’s strategy to expand into European and Middle‑Eastern markets, where harsh climates and high‑reliability requirements are common.

CEO Desmond Wheatley said, “Thermal management is crucial to most essential battery operations, and this new patent strengthens Beam Global’s unique and valuable differentiated IP portfolio with solutions that matter to our customers.” He added that Europe is a vast market for the company’s products and that defending its advantage there is as important as in the U.S. for long‑term growth.

Beam Global has built a consistent IP strategy, having secured U.S. patents for the same technology in September 2025 and for its Intelligent Battery Thermal‑Management system in late September 2025. The European grant extends that protection, positioning Beam Global to capture demand in remote, high‑temperature, and high‑reliability environments and to differentiate itself from competitors that lack comparable passive thermal‑management solutions.
