BioLargo Equipment Solutions & Technologies, a subsidiary of BioLargo, Inc., entered into a memorandum of understanding with Aquatech on May 4 2026 to advance the integration and commercialization of its proprietary Aqueous Electrostatic Concentrator (AEC) technology for removing per‑ and poly‑fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from liquid streams.
The AEC system concentrates PFAS onto membrane surfaces, enabling high‑efficiency removal of both long‑ and short‑chain compounds while generating minimal secondary waste. The technology has already operated continuously for more than 10,000 hours at a municipal plant in Lake Stockholm, New Jersey, and is now positioned for broader deployment under EPA monitoring. The partnership will allow Aquatech to embed the AEC as a concentration step within its existing PFAS treatment solutions, giving BioLargo access to Aquatech’s extensive customer base and distribution network.
BioLargo’s 2025 financial results showed a revenue decline to $7.8 million and a net loss of $15.2 million, largely driven by the termination of a major customer’s license. Engineering services revenue, however, doubled from $1.017 million to $1.998 million, indicating a shift toward higher‑margin service offerings. The MOU is therefore a key catalyst for 2026 revenue growth, as management has identified the PFAS portfolio as a primary growth engine for the year.
The alliance reduces BioLargo’s capital requirements and is expected to generate early cash flow by leveraging Aquatech’s established market presence. It also supports BioLargo’s broader strategy of commercializing technologies across PFAS treatment, medical devices, and battery energy storage, positioning the company to capture multiple emerging markets.
"By partnering with Aquatech – one of the most respected and capable organizations in the global water treatment industry – we can significantly amplify the reach and impact of our Aqueous Electrostatic Concentrator technology," said Tonya Chandler, President of BioLargo Equipment. "Coupling BioLargo's AEC PFAS collection and concentration technology with Aquatech's PFAS removal and destruction expertise presents a powerful opportunity to fast‑track effective solutions to serve the customer," added Devesh Mittal, Vice President of Aquatech Environmental Services. "The Lake Stockholm installation marks an important milestone for BioLargo as its AEC technology transitions into real‑life municipal use," noted Dennis Calvert, CEO of BioLargo.
