Blackbaud has made the Development Agent, its first “Agent for Good,” generally available to Raiser's Edge NXT customers in the United States. The autonomous AI teammate is designed to help fundraising teams identify, cultivate, and engage mid‑tier donors at scale, a segment that has historically been underserved due to limited capacity.

The Development Agent operates entirely within the Raiser's Edge NXT platform, providing personalized outreach while preserving the data security and integrity that nonprofits require. It uses Blackbaud’s proprietary philanthropic dataset to deliver donor insights and recommendations that are tailored to each organization’s mission and donor history.

This launch is part of Blackbaud’s broader “Intelligence for Good” strategy, which seeks to transform its products from systems of record into systems of intelligent action. The Development Agent is being offered as a paid product line, with pricing set between $25,000 and $35,000 per year on multi‑year subscriptions, targeting mid‑ to large‑size nonprofits. The move signals Blackbaud’s intent to monetize AI capabilities as distinct offerings rather than as add‑ons.

Mike Gianoni, President, CEO and Chairman of the Board, said, “I believe the social impact sector has a monumental opportunity to benefit from the advancements in agentic AI. If used responsibly and effectively, agentic AI has the potential to completely redefine what’s possible when people unite around shared purpose. Together, the social impact sector could unlock the greatest advancement of purpose‑driven missions in human history. We are all in on supporting our customers as the world’s most trusted and powerful AI engine for social impact.” He added, “AI can help these very stretched fundraisers to extend their reach and reduce the burden of repetitive, time‑intensive work. At the very least, it will reduce the technology learning curve by helping them communicate with tools in natural language. But, it does not stop there.”

Blackbaud’s announcement follows a broader AI strategy that has been well received by the market. The company’s earlier unveiling of over 70 embedded, sector‑specific AI capabilities at its bbcon 2025 conference positioned it as a leader in agentic AI for the social impact sector. The Development Agent’s introduction is expected to strengthen Blackbaud’s competitive moat by leveraging its unique data assets and deep integration with Raiser's Edge NXT.

The Development Agent’s pricing and subscription model suggest a focus on recurring revenue growth. By targeting mid‑tier donors—an underserved segment—Blackbaud can expand its customer base and deepen relationships with existing clients. The product’s autonomous capabilities also reduce the operational burden on fundraising teams, potentially increasing donor engagement and long‑term retention.
