BP’s Azule Energy, the 50:50 joint venture between BP and Eni, started commercial gas production at the Quiluma field on March 16 2026, marking the first output from Angola’s New Gas Consortium (NGC).

Initial production is set at 150 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscf/d) and is expected to ramp up to 330 mmscf/d by the end of 2026, making Quiluma Angola’s first non‑associated gas development and expanding BP’s African gas portfolio.

Gas from Quiluma is treated at an onshore processing facility and delivered to the Angola LNG plant, creating a new export source while supporting domestic energy needs.

The milestone aligns with BP’s strategy to grow upstream gas in high‑potential regions; the NGC partnership includes Cabinda Gulf Oil Company, Sonangol E&P, TotalEnergies, and ANPG, with Azule Energy operating the project.

Gordon Birrell, BP’s executive vice president for production & operations and Azule board member, said the safe delivery of the NGC project “demonstrates what strong partnerships and collaboration can deliver” and strengthens Angola’s energy mix, positioning the country as a global gas player.

By adding a new revenue stream and expanding its gas footprint, the start‑up supports BP’s transition strategy and provides a foundation for sustained production growth.
