Instacart (NASDAQ: CART) has partnered with Costco Wholesale to launch same‑day delivery websites in France and Spain. The new sites, sameday.costco.fr and sameday.costco.es, will serve Costco members in Paris, Mulhouse, Bilbao, Madrid, Seville and Zaragoza, delivering groceries on the same day through Instacart’s Storefront Pro platform.
This partnership marks Instacart’s first deployment of its enterprise commerce platform outside North America, giving the company access to Costco’s extensive member base and product assortment in two new European markets. The expansion is a key step in Instacart’s strategy to capture a share of the growing online grocery market in Europe and to diversify its revenue streams beyond the U.S. and Canadian grocery sectors.
Instacart will work with local European fulfillment partners to pick, pack and deliver orders, while Costco retains ownership of the member experience and customer relationship. The service offers same‑as‑in‑store pricing with a flat service fee per order, and is powered by Instacart’s Storefront Pro technology, which has been used by retailers in the U.S., Canada, Australia and the U.K. to scale online ordering and delivery programs.
"For Costco, this unlocks a new level of access and convenience for members, and for Instacart, this marks a new chapter as we bring our over 13 years of grocery industry expertise to more global markets," said Chris Rogers, CEO and Chair of Instacart. Pierre Riel, EVP of Costco Wholesale International Division, added, "Online ordering and delivery gives members in France and Spain greater flexibility in how they shop Costco’s assortment and builds on the services we already offer. It’s another step in making Costco easier to access while continuing to deliver the value, quality and service our members expect."
The announcement was well received by investors, reflecting confidence in Instacart’s ability to scale its enterprise platform internationally and strengthen its competitive moat against rivals such as DoorDash, Uber Eats and Amazon. The move also positions Instacart to capture a share of the European online grocery market and deepens its partnership with a major retailer, signaling a significant step forward in its global expansion strategy.
