ChargePoint announced a new public charging deployment at Midwestern Wheels’ airport and rental‑car locations in Appleton and Madison, Wisconsin. The rollout includes a mix of Level‑2 AC and DC fast‑charging units equipped with the company’s Omni Port hardware, which accepts any electric‑vehicle connector without the need for adapters.

The chargers are integrated into ChargePoint’s next‑generation platform, giving Midwestern Wheels real‑time monitoring and remote performance management while opening the stations to the public. The move is intended to increase utilization of the infrastructure and provide a reliable charging option for the company’s rental fleet and local residents.

Midwestern Wheels, a licensee of Avis Budget Group, said the partnership supports its strategy to future‑proof its fleet and infrastructure. “By deploying Omni Port stations, we can accommodate the growing variety of EV models without additional hardware changes,” said Bill Wallschlaeger, president of Midwestern Wheels. “Opening the chargers to the public also maximizes return on investment and strengthens our service offering.”

ChargePoint’s CEO Rick Wilmer highlighted the significance of the deployment: “This expansion demonstrates how our hardware and software can be deployed quickly and flexibly in commercial settings, and it underscores the growing demand for accessible charging across the state.” The deployment comes amid a 50% annual increase in Wisconsin EV registrations since 2013, underscoring the market’s rapid growth.

By integrating the stations into its platform, Midwestern Wheels can monitor usage patterns, forecast demand, and optimize pricing, which can improve revenue per port and reduce idle time. The partnership also positions ChargePoint to capture a larger share of the state’s public charging market, where the company already operates a substantial Level‑2 network. While the exact number of units deployed was not disclosed, the addition of both AC and DC stations is expected to enhance charging capacity and support the continued rise in EV adoption.
