C.H. Robinson has rolled out a fleet of artificial‑intelligence agents that automatically detect and resolve missed less‑than‑truckload pickups, a move that is expected to streamline operations for more than 11,000 customers and hundreds of shipments each day.

The agents were first introduced on the Freightquote platform for small‑ and medium‑sized customers and were expanded to the broader LTL network in July. The company now operates over 30 AI agents that, in addition to tracking carrier status and contacting carriers, also handle pricing quotes, orders, freight classification, shipment tracking and proof of delivery.

The new system automates 95 % of missed‑pickup checks, saving the company more than 350 hours of manual work daily. It also cuts unnecessary return trips by 42 % and moves freight up to one day faster, improving carrier utilization and reducing fuel and labor costs for both C.H. Robinson and its carriers.

C.H. Robinson’s CEO and senior leaders frame the rollout as part of a broader “Lean AI” strategy that seeks to embed autonomous agents across the supply chain. Greg West, Vice President for LTL, noted that “a missed pickup isn’t just a minor inconvenience… it forces another truck to come back the next day, creating a domino effect for other freight.” Mark Albrecht, Vice President for Artificial Intelligence, added that the company “uses AI agents only where they can deliver tangible business results.”

Analysts at UBS and TD Cowen have raised their price targets for the company in response to the AI initiative, reflecting confidence that the technology will drive step‑change labor productivity gains into 2027 and support a cyclical upturn in truckload volume and pricing.
