Comtech Telecommunications Corp. completed the first delivery of its Enterprise Digital Intermediate Frequency Multicarrier (EDIM) modems to the U.S. Army on March 18, 2026, fulfilling a key milestone under a $48.6 million contract that the company secured in October 2023.

The EDIM modems replace the Army’s older Enhanced Bandwidth Efficient Modems (EBEMs) and are the first Digital Intermediate Frequency Interoperability (DIFI)‑compliant platform fielded by the U.S. Army. The software‑defined modems support secure, high‑speed, multicarrier links across multiple satellite providers and are slated to support Final Acceptance Testing in the summer of 2026.

The contract, awarded in October 2023, calls for a phased delivery of the modems. The first shipment on March 18, 2026 marks the beginning of a multi‑year rollout that will see the full complement of units installed across Army satellite assets.

Comtech’s Satellite and Space Communications segment has recently turned from a loss to a profit, a turnaround driven by a strategic shift toward higher‑margin defense programs and the systematic phasing out of lower‑margin, working‑capital‑intensive revenue streams. The segment’s improved gross margins and four consecutive quarters of positive operating cash flow underscore the effectiveness of this repositioning.

"Delivering these first EDIM modems is a major achievement for Comtech," said Daniel Gizinski, President of the company’s Satellite & Space Communications segment. "This milestone reflects the dedication and technical excellence of our team and sets the stage for successful integration and deployment in support of the U.S. Army’s SATCOM modernization goals."

The delivery strengthens Comtech’s reputation as a trusted defense‑grade satellite solutions provider and positions the company to pursue additional government contracts. It also validates the company’s broader transformation strategy, which focuses on high‑margin defense products and infrastructure solutions while shedding legacy, low‑margin businesses.

Analysts have expressed mixed views on Comtech’s recent performance, but the successful delivery of the EDIM modems signals strong execution capability and supports the company’s trajectory toward sustained growth in the defense satellite market.
