Canadian National Railway Sets New March Grain‑Movement Record

CNI
April 03, 2026

Canadian National Railway (CNI) announced on April 3, 2026 that it moved more than 2.96 million metric tonnes of grain from Western Canada during March, establishing a new monthly record for the company.

The record shipment also marked CNI’s highest ever first‑quarter grain‑movement results, with weekly volumes exceeding 600,000 tonnes for two consecutive weeks and peaking at over 650,000 tonnes.

The company attributed the achievement to a rapid recovery of network velocity after late‑month weather disruptions that temporarily affected terminal capacity in Vancouver and the Prince Rupert corridor, as well as robust export demand and the reopening of the Port of Thunder Bay.
