Coherent announced the launch of its Thermadite 800 Liquid Cold Plates on March 5 2026, a new cooling solution that reduces chip temperatures by more than 15 °C compared with conventional copper plates in high‑heat‑flux AI accelerator environments.
The plates are built from a diamond‑infused silicon carbide matrix that delivers 800 W/(m·K) thermal conductivity while weighing 60 % less than copper, enabling aggressive liquid cooling without the warpage, stress, or reliability concerns that can accompany metal‑diamond plates.
Coherent’s vertically integrated materials development and high‑volume manufacturing capabilities support production, positioning the company to meet growing demand for advanced cooling in AI and high‑performance computing markets.
The Thermadite 800 will be showcased at the SEMI‑THERM Symposium & Exposition (March 9‑12) and the Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibition (OFC) (March 15‑19), where the company will demonstrate the technology’s performance in real‑world AI workloads.
The launch follows Coherent’s January 2026 bondable diamond solutions and a $2 billion investment from Nvidia, underscoring the company’s strategic focus on AI infrastructure and its role as a key enabler for high‑density AI accelerators.
Coherent’s Datacenter & Communications segment accounted for 72 % of revenue in Q2 2026, and the company reported 17 % year‑over‑year revenue growth in Q1 and Q2 2026, driven by strong demand in AI‑related data‑center and communications markets.
"Effective cooling in high‑performance computing depends on the entire thermal route from chip to coolant. By merging decades of material science with precision manufacturing, Thermadite liquid cold plates lower chip temperatures, optimize pressure flow, and minimize interface resistance— all specifically designed for the extreme requirements of modern AI chips," said Steve Rummel, Senior Vice President of the Engineered Materials Group.
