Canagold Resources Ltd. filed an Environmental Assessment application with the British Columbia Environmental Assessment Office on April 1 2026 for its New Polaris gold‑antimony project, located on the west bank of the Tulsequah River in northwestern British Columbia.

The filing marks a key regulatory step, advancing the project into formal provincial review and bringing it closer to a construction decision. The EA application incorporates extensive technical studies, environmental baseline work, and community engagement, and it reflects the company’s commitment to responsible development and stakeholder collaboration.

New Polaris is a 100 % owned, past‑producing, high‑grade deposit that contains both gold and antimony, the latter being a critical mineral. A feasibility study completed in July 2025 shows an after‑tax NPV of $425 million and an IRR of 30.9 % at a gold price of $2,500 /oz, but the project requires a $250 million pre‑production capital outlay and successful permitting, including an Environmental Assessment Certificate and First Nation consent.

Canagold’s financial position remains fragile: the company reported a net loss of $2.59 million in 2025, no operating revenue, a cash balance of $0.82 million, and negative working capital. Auditors expressed substantial doubt about the company’s ability to continue as a going concern, underscoring the need for future equity financing to fund the project’s capital requirements.

The company has engaged early with Indigenous Nations, particularly the Taku River Tlingit First Nation, whose traditional territory encompasses the project site and who hold a say in whether the mine is built. The project also sits near the abandoned Tulsequah Chief Mine, which has released acid mine drainage for decades, adding environmental sensitivity to the assessment. CEO Catalin Kilofliski said, "The submission of our EA application is a pivotal moment for the New Polaris project. This milestone reflects not only the advancement of the New Polaris project, but also the strength of the relationships we have built along the way. Our approach has always been grounded in meaningful engagement, transparency, and respect for Indigenous Nations and local communities. We remain committed to continuing this collaborative process as we move through the Environmental Assessment and beyond."
