Cognizant Technology Solutions Corporation announced that it will embed OpenAI’s Codex generative‑AI model across its worldwide software engineering organization, a move that standardizes AI‑driven code generation, refactoring, testing and documentation for all of its engineering teams.

Codex, launched in May 2025 and now available in ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Edu and Enterprise plans, is designed to understand and produce code in multiple programming languages. By integrating Codex into its engineering workflow, Cognizant aims to accelerate delivery cycles, improve code quality and reduce the cost and risk of large‑scale modernization programs, while allowing engineers to focus on higher‑value judgment tasks.

The partnership fits into Cognizant’s broader AI‑builder strategy, which has already skilled more than 340,000 associates in AI and positioned the firm as a bridge between AI investment and enterprise value. In the most recent quarter, Cognizant reported revenue of $5.33 billion, up 4.9% year‑over‑year, with financial‑services revenue rising 10.5% and health‑sciences revenue up 5.2%. The company’s stock has been trading near its 52‑week low, down 27% year‑to‑date, underscoring the market’s appetite for a clear AI‑led growth narrative.

"The best engineering organizations of the next decade will not be defined by how many engineers they have, but by how effectively human judgment and AI capability work as one. We are embedding Codex as a partner in how our engineers work – handling code generation, refactoring, testing and documentation – so our teams can apply human judgment where it is needed most. OpenAI brings frontier intelligence. Cognizant brings enterprise scale, deep industry expertise and the governance rigor that industry requires," said Rajesh Varrier, President – Operations and Chairman and Managing Director, Cognizant India.

"We started the year on a strong note, delivering revenue and adjusted operating margin ahead of our expectations, reflecting our steadfast focus on the execution of our strategy over the last several years. The breadth and depth of our portfolio, combined with our deep industry and domain expertise, position us well as a strategic partner for clients in an increasingly complex macroeconomic environment. Today, productivity, cost reduction and resiliency are especially important, and we believe our differentiated AI and platform capabilities are helping clients navigate the near‑term uncertainty while embarking on longer‑term AI‑led transformation," added Ravi Kumar S, Chief Executive Officer.

Investors reacted positively to the announcement, reflecting confidence that the partnership will strengthen Cognizant’s competitive position and accelerate its AI‑led growth trajectory. The move aligns with a broader industry trend, as other IT services firms such as Accenture, Capgemini, Infosys, PwC, Tata Consultancy Services and CGI are also partnering with OpenAI to scale Codex in enterprise environments.

The partnership represents a strategic milestone that positions Cognizant as a key player in the AI‑powered software development space, potentially unlocking higher‑margin work and reinforcing its AI‑builder brand. The company’s continued investment in AI skilling and its expanding portfolio of AI‑enabled services suggest a sustained focus on leveraging generative AI to drive operational efficiency and client value.
