DoorDash Inc. and its autonomous‑delivery partner Wing announced that the drone‑delivery service will now operate in the Metro Atlanta market, launching near Tanger Outlets in Locust Grove. The service will serve restaurants such as Molinos Mexican Grill, Koji Japanese Steakhouse, and Sabrosos Mexican Restaurant, adding a fifth U.S. city to the partnership’s footprint after previous expansions to Southwest Virginia, the Dallas‑Fort Worth metroplex, and the Charlotte region.
The new Atlanta service is limited to customers within a radius of the Tanger Outlets location, with deliveries expected to take as little as 20 minutes. Because drones can carry only up to 5 pounds, the service is best suited for smaller orders such as individual meals or drinks. To encourage early adoption, DoorDash is offering a $5 discount and free delivery on the first order of $10 or more for eligible customers.
This expansion is a strategic move that strengthens DoorDash’s autonomous delivery network and enhances its competitive position against rivals that rely solely on human drivers. By integrating drone delivery into its multi‑modal platform—comprising human couriers, drones, and ground robots—DoorDash aims to deliver faster, more efficient, and potentially lower‑cost last‑mile solutions, furthering its goal of building a comprehensive local‑commerce operating system.
