Dolby Laboratories announced its expanded automotive partnership at the Auto China 2026 exhibition, unveiling the first vehicles equipped with Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision across a broad portfolio of automakers. The announcement highlighted the debut of Dolby Atmos in the new BMW 7 Series and the China‑exclusive BMW iX3 Long Wheelbase, marking the start of Dolby’s rollout across BMW’s vehicle lineup.
The rollout includes a diverse set of brands and models: Lexus unveiled its first Dolby‑enabled ES; Li Auto showcased Dolby Vision and Atmos in its L Series, i Series, and the world‑first MEGA; NIO demonstrated the ES9; ONVO introduced the Dolby Experience app; Hongqi’s new H7, Dongfeng Nissan’s NX8, Beijing Hyundai’s IONIQ V, Cadillac, ZEEKR, Volkswagen, Great Wall Motors’ TANK 700, Volvo’s EX90 and ES90, and Porsche’s 911 GT3 and Panamera Pure Edition all feature Dolby Atmos, with several also integrating Dolby Vision.
Dolby now offers its immersive audio and visual technologies in more than 40 global automotive brands and over 150 car models, expanding its addressable market beyond traditional device licensing. This expansion supports Dolby’s strategy to capture recurring revenue from automotive and streaming partners, positioning the company as the default choice for premium in‑car entertainment and reinforcing its role as a key player in the growing “second living room” trend.
"We are seeing a clear shift as cars evolve from transportation tools into ‘the second living room’ – a personal space with premium audio and visual experiences. At Auto China 2026, we see this transformation taking center stage and Dolby is at the forefront through collaborations with automakers, their suppliers and the content ecosystem around the globe," said Javier Foncillas, Vice President of Commercial Partnerships and Global Sales at Dolby.
Dolby’s “Double Dolby” offering—combining Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos—transforms car cabins into immersive entertainment hubs. Dolby Atmos is also available via Apple CarPlay in vehicles from Xiaomi, Lotus, BMW, and Hyundai. ONVO’s Dolby Experience app provides a unified interface for content and settings, while Li Auto’s MEGA becomes the first vehicle to support both Dolby Vision and Atmos. The China‑exclusive BMW iX3 Long Wheelbase showcases Dolby’s integration of AI‑powered navigation and localized services, underscoring Dolby’s commitment to high‑margin, capital‑light solutions in the automotive sector.
The expansion underscores Dolby’s commitment to becoming the default provider of premium in‑car entertainment and signals a strategic shift toward recurring revenue streams in automotive, reinforcing its competitive position and long‑term growth prospects.
