Digital Realty Trust announced the acquisition of Telepoint, a Bulgarian data‑center and interconnection provider, adding two carrier‑neutral facilities in Sofia and a high‑density interconnection hub to its portfolio. The deal extends Digital Realty’s PlatformDIGITAL® presence into Bulgaria, a country that is rapidly emerging as a key connectivity hub for European and global cloud traffic.
The announcement corrects a previous misstatement that this was Digital Realty’s first entry into Southeast Europe. The company had already entered the region in September 2020 when its Interxion subsidiary acquired Altus IT in Croatia, and it continues to expand its campus in Zagreb. The Telepoint acquisition therefore represents a strategic deepening rather than a first‑time entry.
Telepoint operates two data centers in Sofia—Sofia East and Sofia Center—that are ISO 27001, ISO 9001, and PCI DSS certified. The facilities host more than 110 unique network service providers and multiple cloud on‑ramps, making them one of Southeast Europe’s most highly interconnected sites. While the announcement does not specify a 1‑megawatt interconnection hub, Telepoint’s infrastructure is designed to support high‑density, low‑latency connectivity for hyperscale and enterprise customers.
The acquisition aligns with Digital Realty’s focus on the 0‑1 megawatt segment, which has been a primary growth engine. By adding Telepoint’s interconnection capabilities, the company can offer customers a new, low‑latency location for AI and cloud workloads, reinforcing its PlatformDIGITAL® strategy and strengthening its competitive position against peers such as Equinix.
The transaction was announced on March 2 2026. The deal value and expected closing date have not been disclosed, and the acquisition is not yet closed. The announcement signals Digital Realty’s continued strategy of geographic expansion to capture AI‑driven demand.
"Sofia is a thriving hub for connectivity in Southeast Europe. Bringing Bulgaria into our global portfolio allows us to offer customers even more ways to connect, collaborate, and scale their businesses. This expansion strengthens and complements our interconnection platform and helps customers reach end users faster, while tapping into a market that’s growing rapidly and attracting innovation," said Paula Cogan, Managing Director EMEA, Digital Realty.
