Duke Energy announced that its Green Source Advantage Express (GSA Express) program has surpassed its initial enrollment targets in North Carolina, with 177.3 MW of renewable capacity subscribed and allocated as of March 17, 2026. The program, designed for large non‑residential customers with a peak demand of at least 1 MW at a single location or 5 MW across multiple sites, allows participants to purchase renewable capacity directly from Duke Energy’s grid.
The 177.3 MW of capacity is split between Duke Energy Carolinas (87.3 MW) and Duke Energy Progress (90 MW). Ten percent of additional capacity each year is reserved for new business customers and will be released in Q4 2026 if unsubscribed. Early adopters include Cisco, United States Cold Storage Inc., and Daimler Truck North America, all of whom have committed to the program to meet sustainability goals while securing reliable power supply.
GSA Express builds on the existing Green Source Advantage plan by offering a more turnkey solution. Unlike the original program, which required customers to conduct an RFP to find their own renewable developer, GSA Express streamlines the process, providing a single point of contact and a simplified procurement experience for large‑load customers.
The program’s success signals strong demand for renewable power among commercial customers and supports Duke Energy’s broader strategy of integrating renewable generation into its regulated utility framework. By capturing a growing segment of the clean‑energy market, the company can generate additional revenue from the sale of clean‑energy attributes and reinforce its $103 billion capital investment plan for 2026‑2030, which focuses on expanding generation capacity and meeting rising demand from data centers and advanced manufacturing.
Management highlighted the program’s impact: "The strong initial response to Green Source Advantage demonstrates how the program meets the real‑world needs of organizations focused on sustainability. By listening to our customers and building on the success of earlier initiatives, we're proud to offer businesses and institutions a simpler, more flexible path to achieving their clean energy goals – empowering them to make meaningful progress toward a smarter energy future," said Meghan Dewey, senior vice president of products, services and pricing solutions for Duke Energy.
Customers also praised the program. "Cisco is proud to build on its long‑standing energy strategy in North Carolina by participating in Duke Energy's GSA Express program. The program enables access to locally sourced, scalable renewable power that supports our sustainability goals and long‑term energy planning," said Evan S. Brown, renewable energy program manager for Cisco. "Partnering with Duke Energy through the GSA Express program is an important step in advancing our sustainability goals and supporting the long‑term energy needs of our operations," added Jeff Allen, chief operating officer for Daimler Truck North America.
The announcement was welcomed by investors, reflecting confidence in Duke Energy’s renewable strategy and its ability to capture a high‑value service offering for large‑load customers.
