Southern California Edison, the regulated utility arm of Edison International, announced that it has extended 1,125 compensation offers to 2,810 claimants, providing nearly $380 million in relief for those affected by the January 2025 Eaton Fire.
The Wildfire Recovery Compensation Program, launched on October 29 2025, offers a Fast Pay option for quick settlements and a Detailed Review for more complex cases. Participation is voluntary and the program is scheduled to run through November 30 2026.
Prior to this milestone, the program had issued 593 offers totaling more than $183 million as of February 18 2026, and 210 offers totaling $117 million as of January 29 2026, indicating a rapid acceleration in the pace of offers and payouts.
Edison International has recorded approximately $1 billion in Eaton Fire liabilities through settlements and the compensation program. Analysts estimate the total potential liability could reach $13.5 billion, underscoring the significant financial exposure that the company is managing through this program.
"The Eaton Fire had a profound and lasting impact on the community. Each day we're seeing signs of meaningful progress. This program reflects our commitment to provide quick, compassionate support and help community members take the next steps forward. Surpassing 1,000 offers is an important milestone in our efforts to support recovery," said Pedro J. Pizarro, president and CEO of Edison International.
The Eaton Fire, which killed 19 people and destroyed more than 9,000 buildings, has led to numerous lawsuits and a federal suit alleging that Southern California Edison’s equipment caused the blaze. The company is also investigating whether its equipment was involved.
While the milestone demonstrates progress in addressing the financial impact on affected communities, the large and potentially growing liability remains a headwind for Edison International’s future earnings, contributing to the company’s forecast of muted growth in 2026.
