Emerson Electric Co. has been chosen as the automation partner for Strategic Biofuels’ Louisiana Green Fuels (LGF) biomass power plant, a $2 billion project in Caldwell Parish, Louisiana. The plant will convert 1.3 million tons of forestry residuals each year into 100 MW of clean, dispatchable electricity while capturing and permanently storing 1.1 million metric tons of CO₂ underground.

LGF’s scale and carbon‑capture capability make it one of the largest commercial biomass‑to‑electricity projects in the United States. The facility’s 100 MW output will supply power to the regional grid, and its 1.1 million‑ton annual CO₂ sequestration will help the state meet its climate‑action targets.

Emerson will deploy its DeltaV Automation Platform, Rosemount smart sensing, control and isolation valves, pressure protection devices, Micro Motion and Flexim flow and gas analysis solutions, and AspenTech data‑management software to deliver a fully integrated, reliable, and secure control system. The combination of Emerson’s hardware and software portfolio positions the company to manage the complex, multi‑disciplinary operations required for a carbon‑neutral power plant.

The contract comes at a time when Emerson’s financial performance remains strong. In Q1 2026, the company reported earnings per share of $1.46, beating consensus estimates of $1.41, while revenue of $4.35 billion fell slightly below the $4.37 billion expectation. The earnings beat was driven by disciplined cost management and a favorable product mix, with the Intelligent Devices segment posting net sales of $2.39 billion, up 4 % year‑over‑year. The company’s focus on high‑margin software and systems has helped offset modest revenue pressure in legacy segments.

Management highlighted the company’s continued momentum, stating, “Emerson met sales commitments and exceeded expectations for profitability as our global teams continue to execute well.” He added, “We delivered a fourth consecutive quarter of strong underlying orders growth, and we are experiencing robust demand for our automation technology, led by Software & Systems, with strength in North America, India and the Middle East & Africa.” The LGF win underscores Emerson’s strategy to accelerate innovation, expand its software‑defined automation capabilities, and deepen its presence in high‑growth verticals such as renewable energy and carbon capture.
