Equinix announced that its Fabric AI ecosystem will now include ASIC‑powered inference nodes from Australian sovereign AI provider SouthernCrossAI (SCX). The integration gives Australian government agencies, enterprises and developers direct, low‑latency access to SCX’s AI inference capacity through Equinix’s global network of more than 280 interconnected data centers.
SCX’s nodes are built on SambaNova’s SN50 Reconfigurable Dataflow Unit (RDU) and are designed to run inference workloads without storing or routing data offshore. The company emphasizes that it retains no customer data, does not train on customer data, and does not route traffic outside Australia, thereby meeting strict data‑sovereignty requirements for government and regulated customers.
By making SCX’s nodes discoverable within Fabric, Equinix expands its AI portfolio and strengthens its interconnection moat. The partnership opens a new revenue stream for Equinix from government and enterprise customers seeking secure, low‑latency AI services, while also positioning Equinix as the default platform for sovereign AI deployments in the region.
Management highlighted the strategic fit of the deal. Chris Johnston, Interim Managing Director of Equinix Australia, said, “SCX represents exactly the kind of sovereign AI provider that enterprises and government agencies need to access through Equinix Fabric – a locally governed, high‑performance inferencing capability that meets Australia’s data sovereignty requirements.” David Keane, CEO and Co‑Founder of SCX, added, “Joining Equinix Fabric AI ecosystem means that any organisation connected to Equinix Fabric can now reach our sovereign inferencing nodes with a private, direct connection.”
The partnership underscores the growing demand for sovereign AI solutions and positions Equinix to capture a geographically focused customer segment that prioritises data residency and low‑latency performance. It also supports SCX’s national expansion plan, leveraging Equinix’s data‑center footprint to scale its on‑shore AI infrastructure without building new facilities.
