Ericsson’s subsidiary Vonage announced an expansion of its partnership with Freenow by Lyft, a leading European taxi and multi‑mobility app, to launch the Silent Authentication API for U.S. customers. The API uses real‑time network signals to verify users without passwords or one‑time codes, delivering seamless fraud protection during logins and payments.

The Silent Authentication API is part of Vonage’s broader fraud‑prevention portfolio, which also includes SIM‑swap detection and synthetic‑identity monitoring. By eliminating the need for user‑visible credentials, the solution reduces friction for high‑volume transactions while tightening security against account takeovers, SIM‑swap schemes, and synthetic‑identity fraud that are increasingly common in the mobility sector.

The partnership represents a tangible expansion of Ericsson’s enterprise services business, which is projected to grow at 6% annually. Ericsson’s enterprise segment saw mixed results in Q2 2025, with declining sales but improving profitability, and Vonage’s performance was weaker amid cautious customer investment. Adding Freenow by Lyft as a U.S. customer strengthens Vonage’s presence in a high‑growth vertical and supports Ericsson’s strategy to build network‑driven services for private 5G, IoT, and cloud communications.

Freenow by Lyft, acquired by Lyft in July 2025 for approximately $197 million, operates in nine European markets and over 180 cities. The U.S. launch of the Silent Authentication API extends Freenow’s fraud‑prevention capabilities to its growing American user base, aligning with Lyft’s global expansion strategy and providing a robust security layer for a platform that handles millions of rides and payments each year.

Tim Ossenfort, EVP of Technology & Data at Freenow by Lyft, said the API launch “marks a transformative milestone for Freenow, enhancing security for our U.S. customers while maintaining a frictionless experience.” Niklas Heuveldop, CEO of Vonage and Head of Business Area Global Communications Platform at Ericsson, added that “network‑powered solutions are redefining the mobility industry, and this partnership demonstrates the value of Vonage’s fraud‑prevention technology at scale.”
