Doble Engineering, the utility‑diagnostics arm of ESCO Technologies, introduced its Spark P2 handheld partial‑discharge (PD) and radio‑frequency interference (RFI) measurement device on March 30, 2026. The Spark P2 is a single‑channel, portable surveyor that can perform sensitive PD measurements on any test object and with any PD sensor, making it a versatile tool for site surveys, transformer, switchgear, and cable accessory inspections.

The device combines narrow‑band UHF, HF, wide‑band acoustic, and ultra‑wide‑band integrative charge PD detectors. It also offers advanced diagnostic tools such as phase‑resolved PD analysis, spectrum analysis, and time‑resolved narrow‑band analysis. Two operating modes—Wizard Mode, which guides users through measurement procedures, and Expert Mode, which gives experienced technicians full control—allow the Spark P2 to serve both novice and professional field engineers.

By adding the Spark P2 to its portfolio, Doble expands its capability to deliver comprehensive, portable PD and RFI diagnostics. The launch is expected to broaden the company’s customer base and increase revenue from utility and industrial customers that require rapid, on‑site insulation testing. The product also strengthens ESCO’s Utility Solutions Group’s position in the growing grid‑reliability and condition‑monitoring market, aligning with the company’s strategy to capture demand from data centers and aging infrastructure.

"The Spark P2 meets the growing demand for comprehensive and universal PD assessments, while also offering the added benefits of portability, lightweight design, and easy storage," said Falk Werner, Offer Director at Doble Engineering. "Its automatic signal acquisition and guided measurements allow users of all experience levels to effortlessly conduct detailed PD insulation diagnostics, make informed decisions, and ensure the reliability of high‑voltage assets."

ESCO Technologies reported strong first‑quarter 2026 results, with net sales of $289.7 million—a 35% year‑over‑year increase—and diluted earnings per share of $1.11. The Aerospace & Defense segment led growth, while the Test segment, which includes Doble, also saw an increase in sales. Doble was acquired by ESCO in 2007 for $319 million, and the Spark P2’s feature set includes a subset of the higher‑end Spark P3 model, indicating a tiered product strategy that balances performance with portability.

The Spark P2 launch reflects broader industry trends, including the need to modernize aging infrastructure, improve resilience to extreme weather, and integrate renewable energy sources. By providing a lightweight, easy‑to‑use diagnostic tool, Doble positions itself to meet these demands and support utilities and industrial customers in maintaining grid reliability and asset integrity.
