FedEx Suspends Flights to 11 Middle East Countries and Halts Pickup/Delivery in Five Markets Amid Geopolitical Tensions

FedEx announced that it would suspend all flights to and from 11 Middle East countries and would halt pickup and delivery operations in five of those markets. The flight suspension covers Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, while pickup and delivery services are stopped in Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

The decision follows a sharp escalation of geopolitical tensions in the region, triggered by U.S. and Israeli military actions against Iran. The resulting airspace closures and heightened safety risks have made it difficult for FedEx to maintain reliable service, prompting the company to prioritize the safety of its personnel and customers.

FedEx’s financial profile underscores the significance of the Middle East for its core Federal Express segment, which accounts for 86% of total revenue. In fiscal 2025 the company reported $90,093 million in revenue, a 1% three‑year growth rate, an operating margin of 10.77% and a net margin of 4.81%. The suspension is expected to reduce revenue and market share in the region, but the company’s strong balance sheet and ongoing investments—such as a $350 million hub in Dubai and a planned Riyadh hub—provide a foundation for long‑term resilience.

Investors reacted negatively to the announcement, with analysts noting concerns about the immediate revenue loss and the broader implications for FedEx’s global network efficiency. The market’s response reflects the perceived risk of reduced traffic in a key logistics hub and the potential for increased operating costs in alternative routes.

FedEx emphasized that the safety and well-being of its team members is its highest priority. “As a result, pickup and delivery services in Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates have been temporarily suspended until further notice,” the company said. “Shipments to and from other markets throughout the region may experience extended transit times. We are closely monitoring the situation and will resume services as soon as it is safe to do so.”
