Penn State University has chosen Flywire Corporation to handle tuition payments for its more than 100,000 students, marking a major expansion of Flywire’s domestic education footprint.
The partnership will deploy Flywire’s Student Financial Software suite, including e‑bill presentment, payment plans, past‑due tuition management, eRefunds, and 1098‑T presentment, fully integrated with Penn State’s PeopleSoft Student Information System.
The deal builds on a decade‑long relationship that began with Flywire’s international student payment services. By moving to a comprehensive, embedded platform, Penn State will automate billing, payment plans, and reconciliation, improving the student experience and reducing administrative overhead.
Flywire’s recent financial results underscore the strategic value of the deal. Q4 2025 revenue rose 34% year‑over‑year to $157.5 million, driven largely by the education vertical, which accounted for 54% of total revenue in 2024. Gross margin contracted to 57.6% from 63.2% the prior year, reflecting investments in platform expansion and cost‑control initiatives. Adjusted EBITDA grew to $25.4 million, up from $16.7 million, indicating that the company is scaling while managing margin pressure.
“There is real value for students and the staff in modernizing the way we handle tuition processes,” said Carolyn Saona, Penn State’s bursar. Flywire CEO Mike Massaro highlighted the partnership as evidence of the company’s “vertical software” strategy, noting that the deal adds substantial transaction volume and demonstrates the scalability of its integrated solution.
The partnership positions Flywire to capture a larger share of the education payments market and supports its broader strategy to embed deeply within client workflows, potentially driving further adoption across the sector.
