GE HealthCare announced the completion of a digital integration between its bkActiv™ intra‑operative ultrasound (iUS) system and Medtronic’s Stealth AXiS™ surgical navigation platform on April 9, 2026. The new solution delivers real‑time, high‑resolution ultrasound data directly into the Stealth AXiS workflow, allowing neurosurgeons to view and navigate brain anatomy in a single interface during cranial procedures.

The integration addresses the long‑standing “brain shift” problem that can compromise the accuracy of pre‑operative imaging. By overlaying live ultrasound on the navigation map, surgeons can adjust trajectories on the fly, improving precision and potentially reducing operative time and complications. The plug‑and‑play design also means the system can be deployed without extensive re‑training or new hardware, encouraging adoption in busy operating rooms.

This launch is a key element of GE HealthCare’s D3 strategy, which seeks to bundle devices, drugs, and digital tools to create higher‑margin, recurring revenue streams. The partnership with Medtronic—already a leader in surgical navigation—extends GE’s footprint in the intra‑operative imaging market and positions the combined offering as a comprehensive solution for complex cranial surgeries. The integration also sets the stage for future expansions into spine and ENT procedures, following the recent FDA clearance of Stealth AXiS for those indications.

GE HealthCare’s recent financial performance underscores the strategic importance of this integration. In Q4 2025, the company reported $5.7 billion in revenue and an adjusted EPS of $1.44, while full‑year 2025 revenue reached $20.6 billion with an adjusted EPS of $4.59. The company’s Imaging and Pharmaceutical Diagnostics segments drove the majority of growth, and GE HealthCare is scheduled to release its Q1 2026 results on April 29, 2026. The new integration is expected to contribute to the next‑quarter revenue mix and support the company’s recurring‑revenue objectives.

Heidi Seerden, General Manager of Surgical Innovations at GE HealthCare, said, “Real‑time visualization is critical for cranial surgical teams to assess anatomy, navigate changes, and make critical decisions in the surgical suite. We are proud to build on our long‑time collaboration with Medtronic to bring together bkActiv with the Stealth AXiS surgical navigation system in a way that supports our shared goals of supporting surgical precision and clinician confidence.”

The integration will debut at the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) Annual Scientific Meeting from May 1‑4, 2026, where surgeons will be able to experience the combined workflow. Analysts view the partnership as a competitive differentiator that could capture market share from vendors offering standalone imaging or navigation solutions, potentially driving future sales growth in the neurosurgery segment.
