GEN Restaurant Group Expands Retail Product Line to 190 Grocery Stores

GEN Restaurant Group announced that its consumer‑packaged‑goods (CPG) line will now be available in 190 grocery stores, adding to the 57 restaurant locations that serve its loyal customer base. The move is part of a broader CPG strategy that has already reached more than 800 grocery locations by early 2026.

The 190‑store rollout follows a September 2025 launch of ready‑to‑cook meats in 31 Pavilions stores and a rapid expansion to 800 supermarkets by October 2025. The new announcement focuses on a specific channel, likely targeting customers who frequent the company’s restaurants.

GENK’s financial performance in 2025 highlights the strategic importance of the CPG expansion. The company posted a net loss of $19.4 million, a sharp decline from a $4.5 million profit in 2024. Restaurant sales fell 7.9% for the year and 11.6% in Q4, while the CPG segment is projected to reach $20 million in sales in 2026 and a $100 million run rate within three years.

CEO David Kim said the rapid CPG expansion reflects strong consumer demand for GEN brands and leverages the same recipes used in restaurants. The company aims to offset margin compression in its core business, as restaurant‑level adjusted EBITDA fell to 13.8% in 2025 from 17.7% in 2024.

After the March 20, 2026 announcement of the broader CPG program, shares surged up to 20%. However, the March 31, 2025 earnings miss—revenue below estimates and a net loss—led to a 14% drop the following day, underscoring investor caution amid margin pressure and high debt.
