Waymo announced a $16 billion financing round that values the autonomous‑driving unit at $110 billion, with Alphabet contributing more than 75% of the capital—approximately $13 billion—while new investors Sequoia Capital, Dragoneer, and DST Global joined existing backers Andreessen Horowitz and Mubadala.

The round more than doubles Waymo’s valuation from the $45 billion it achieved in its Series C funding in October 2024, underscoring investor confidence in the company’s Level 4 autonomy platform and its expansion plans into new cities such as Miami and London.

Waymo has completed over 20 million autonomous trips and generates $350 million in annual recurring revenue. The company’s fleet is growing, and it is targeting 1 million paid rides per week later in 2026, a milestone that would significantly increase its revenue trajectory toward an estimated $2.5 billion by 2030.

Alphabet’s investment signals that the parent company views Waymo as a core growth engine, with CEO Sundar Pichai indicating that Waymo could contribute materially to Alphabet’s financials by 2027. The financing also positions Waymo to compete more aggressively against rivals such as Tesla, Cruise, and Chinese entrants, while navigating heightened regulatory scrutiny from the NHTSA and a pending federal autonomous‑vehicle framework.

Waymo’s spokesperson said the company’s “trajectory is clear” and that it remains focused on safety‑led operational excellence and technological leadership. The company has faced recent safety incidents—including a child collision in Santa Monica and a blackout‑related stall in San Francisco—that are under investigation, but management stresses that its system’s braking performance mitigated the impact of the collision.

The financing round comes ahead of Alphabet’s earnings call on February 4, 2026, where the company is expected to discuss Waymo’s contribution to its long‑term growth prospects and the broader autonomous‑mobility strategy.
