HII announced that it will begin production of four new ROMULUS 151 unmanned surface vessels at Breaux Brothers Enterprises in Louisiana, adding to the one already under construction. The expansion marks a transition from prototype to initial production, enabling the U.S. Navy to field additional autonomous platforms for distributed maritime operations.

The ROMULUS 151 is a modular, AI‑enabled unmanned surface vessel designed for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, mine countermeasures, strike operations, and counter‑unmanned systems. The new production run expands HII’s unmanned maritime capabilities and supports the Navy’s interoperability with manned platforms.

The partnership with Breaux Brothers leverages a high‑yield production model that integrates robotics and digital quality systems. “By pairing a purpose‑built assembly line with automation and strong industry partnerships, we are driving predictable production outcomes and lowering the cost of unmanned surface vessels,” said Andy Green, executive vice president of HII and president of Mission Technologies.

The ROMULUS 151 program is part of HII’s Mission Technologies division, which achieved a $3.0 billion revenue milestone in 2025, up 3.6% from $2.9 billion in 2024. The expansion is expected to generate recurring revenue from maintenance, software updates, and future orders, further strengthening HII’s position as a leader in naval unmanned technology.

HII’s broader strategy to accelerate delivery of autonomous maritime systems is reinforced by this production win. “ROMULUS represents a shift in how we deliver unmanned capability to the fleet. We are combining shipbuilding experience, scalable manufacturing, proven autonomy, and strong industry partnerships to move quickly from prototype to operational deployment,” Green added. The contract also positions HII to capture future opportunities under the AUKUS partnership and other allied naval programs.

The announcement underscores HII’s commitment to scaling its unmanned platform manufacturing and meeting the U.S. Navy’s growing demand for autonomous maritime capability, positioning the company for continued growth in a rapidly evolving defense landscape.
