Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) has entered into a partnership with Nominal, a San Francisco‑based advanced engineering and test firm, to modernize the collection, validation, and analysis of data for its REMUS family of autonomous underwater vehicles (UUVs) and ROMULUS unmanned surface vehicles (USVs).

The collaboration will introduce standardized workflows and democratized access to product data from the component level to the vehicle level, enabling faster post‑mission analysis. By integrating Nominal’s digital‑twin test and mission data tools, HII aims to shorten feedback loops, improve traceability, and accelerate the transition from testing to delivery—key capabilities for scaling its unmanned systems business.

The partnership builds on a successful pilot completed in 2025 that demonstrated meaningful cycle‑time reductions across multiple workflows. In 2026, HII and Nominal will broaden deployment to support increased REMUS and ROMULUS production by integrating Nominal’s tools across HII’s product lifecycle and manufacturing systems.

This partnership is a strategic shift that supports HII’s broader Mission Technologies agenda, which seeks to expand the company’s footprint in the growing unmanned systems market. By enhancing data analytics and test‑to‑delivery speed, HII positions itself to capture higher‑margin, faster‑growing opportunities in the U.S. Navy’s distributed maritime operations program. The collaboration is expected to strengthen HII’s competitive advantage in the autonomous vehicle space and accelerate the commercialization of its REMUS and ROMULUS platforms.
