Helio Corporation announced that it has entered the final development and integration phase of a 6‑meter deployable antenna and boom system designed for CubeSat‑class spacecraft, a milestone funded through NASA’s non‑dilutive Phase II Small Business Innovation Research program.

The 6‑meter antenna exceeds the industry’s typical 3‑meter limit, addressing a critical capability gap for longer‑range communications and higher‑resolution sensing on small satellites. Helio’s design focuses on compact stowage, repeatable manufacturing, and consistent performance, enabling the antenna to be deployed reliably in the constrained volume of a CubeSat.

The prototype has already demonstrated key design and performance objectives, and Helio is now advancing toward final assembly and validation. Successful completion of this phase will position the company to begin commercial production and market adoption, opening a new revenue stream and strengthening its foothold in the rapidly expanding small‑satellite market.

CEO Ed Cabrera said advancing the program into its final development phase is an important step toward commercial production, and that the antenna’s attributes position the technology for commercialization as CubeSat platforms transition from experimental missions to operational infrastructure. He noted that persistent supply constraints—stemming from the discontinuation of legacy suppliers for deployable spring components—remain a headwind, but the company is actively securing alternative sources.

The announcement underscores Helio’s strategy to capture growing demand for advanced CubeSat payloads, including communications, space domain awareness, Earth observation, planetary science, and defense. The 6‑meter antenna will enable missions requiring longer‑range communications and higher‑resolution sensing, potentially expanding Helio’s customer base across commercial and defense sectors.
