Helio Corporation Announces Future Role in Artemis IV Amid Financial Distress

Helio Corporation disclosed that it will participate in NASA’s Artemis IV mission, the third crewed lunar landing scheduled for May 2028. The company’s statement clarified that its role is part of the Artemis IV Deployed Instruments (A4DI) program, rather than a finalized contract, and that it will provide space‑qualified hardware and antenna systems for the mission.

Helio’s involvement follows a track record of flight‑proven hardware on four Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) missions, including Intuitive Machines’ IM‑1 and Firefly’s Blue Ghost Mission 1, and support for the Europa Clipper and James Webb Space Telescope missions. The company’s subsidiary, Heliospace, has supplied radar antennas for Europa Clipper and contributed to the design, testing, and launch of JWST.

The announcement comes as Helio reports a severe financial downturn. In the first quarter of 2026, the company generated revenue of $0.495 million, down 65 % from $1.43 million a year earlier, and posted a net loss of $3.73 million versus a $0.919 million loss a year ago. Management disclosed “substantial doubt about its ability to continue as a going‑concern” and noted default notices on promissory notes.

Despite the fiscal strain, Helio is pursuing a strategic pivot toward space‑based solar power (SBSP) and is actively seeking new commercial and defense customers. The company’s recent restructuring has reduced debt, attracted new equity, and upgraded governance, positioning it to pursue the SBSP strategy while maintaining its core space‑hardware business.

Helio’s future role in Artemis IV could provide a high‑profile, long‑term customer and validate its space‑based solar power technology, but the company’s ability to deliver will hinge on resolving its liquidity challenges and securing the necessary capital to support the mission’s technical requirements.
