Harmonic Inc. announced a partnership with DIRECTV to deploy its VOS Media Software, a cloud‑native platform that unifies playout, ad insertion, branding, and media processing for satellite distribution. The software will replace DIRECTV’s legacy, siloed systems and enable the satellite operator to reduce operational costs and scale its linear channel offering.

The deal expands Harmonic’s video‑delivery portfolio into the satellite market and reinforces its position as a leading virtualized media platform. It also demonstrates the scalability of VOS across diverse delivery networks, a key selling point as Harmonic continues to divest its video business to focus on broadband. The partnership therefore represents a strategic win for Harmonic’s remaining video segment while aligning with its broader transformation toward a pure‑play broadband provider.

Harmonic’s Q4 2025 results showed an EPS of $0.06, below analyst estimates, and a 42.6% year‑over‑year revenue decline to $53.02 million. The miss reflects the company’s ongoing revenue contraction and the impact of selling its video business to MediaKind. The DIRECTV deal is expected to generate recurring revenue, but the fact‑check report notes that specific financial terms are not disclosed, so the precise impact on Harmonic’s bottom line remains unclear.

DIRECTV has been modernizing its platform for several years, consolidating satellite and streaming under a single brand in April 2025 and updating its satellite customer interface in July 2024. The new partnership with Harmonic is the latest step in that modernization effort, providing a unified, software‑based foundation that will streamline channel operations and improve monetization through automated ad insertion across linear and pay‑per‑view services.

"Harmonic’s VOS Media Software replaces siloed systems with a unified, software‑based platform. By centralizing advanced playout, ad insertion, branding and media processing, we’re simplifying operations and building a scalable foundation," said Jeffrey Seto, vice president of satellite and software engineering at DIRECTV. "Harmonic is proud to support DIRECTV’s software‑based approach in modernizing its playout‑to‑delivery operations. With Harmonic’s AI‑driven encoding and advanced compression solution, DIRECTV is well positioned to deliver exceptional video experiences to viewers across their linear channels, optimizing quality while minimizing bandwidth usage and operational costs," added Gil Rudge, senior vice president of solutions and Americas sales, video business at Harmonic.
