Humana Inc. announced a three‑year Medicare Advantage contract with CommonSpirit Health that will extend CommonSpirit’s doctors and facilities into Humana’s Medicare Advantage networks across 24 states, including Colorado and Texas. The agreement, effective immediately, will run through 2029 and expands Humana’s provider footprint nationwide.
The deal is a strategic win for Humana, reinforcing its CenterWell integrated care platform, which bundles primary care, home health, and pharmacy services. By adding CommonSpirit’s extensive network, Humana can enhance care coordination and potentially improve quality metrics for its Medicare Advantage plans. The partnership also addresses a prior lapse: CommonSpirit’s Colorado and Texas markets had split from Humana’s network at the start of 2025 due to lapsed regional contracts, and this agreement restores continuity for members in those states.
"Humana is committed to ensuring our members have uninterrupted access to the care and providers they rely on most. We are pleased to reach this agreement with CommonSpirit Health so the individuals we serve can continue receiving high‑quality, trusted care in their communities. This partnership reflects our shared focus on supporting better health outcomes and a dependable, patient‑centered experience," said Caraline Coats, Senior Vice President of Provider Strategy and Operations at Humana.
"From the beginning, our goal has always been to safeguard our patients' ability to access the essential health services they rely on. At a time when ensuring predictable access to care has become increasingly complex across the healthcare landscape, this agreement reflects our commitment to our Medicare Advantage patients, ensuring they can continue to see their trusted doctors and receive vital care within their own community," Cheema also stated, “We look forward to continuing to serve our patients and neighbors for generations to come, upholding our promise of compassionate, accessible care.” Harpreet Cheema, Senior Vice President of Payer Strategy and Analytics at CommonSpirit Health.
While the financial terms of the agreement—including reimbursement rates and any incentive payments—were not disclosed, the partnership is expected to strengthen Humana’s competitive position in key markets and support its value‑based care strategy. The deal also provides CommonSpirit with a stable, long‑term revenue stream amid ongoing financial pressures and reimbursement challenges faced by health systems.
The announcement underscores a broader trend of payer‑provider collaboration in the Medicare Advantage space, where securing and expanding provider networks is essential to maintaining member access and competitive advantage. By integrating CommonSpirit’s nationwide footprint with Humana’s CenterWell platform, the two organizations aim to deliver more coordinated care and improve outcomes for Medicare Advantage members.
