SunHydrogen, Inc. (OTCQB: HYSR) has established a new European subsidiary, SunHydrogen GmbH, in Austria, with Falko Berg appointed as the head of the entity. Berg brings more than 25 years of experience across the hydrogen value chain, including senior roles at DaimlerChrysler, Ford Motor Company, and Hyundai Motor Company.
The company has also added Johannes Mayr as Technical Director and Tor Erik Hoftun as Business Development Lead. Mayr’s background includes extensive engineering experience in automotive development and IT architecture, though no public record confirms a former Apple affiliation. Hoftun brings a decade of cleantech and hydrogen experience, having worked with Scanship/Vow ASA and within the TECO group of companies.
The new Austrian office will support SunHydrogen’s ongoing pilot program in Austin, Texas, and its manufacturing collaboration with CTF Solar GmbH, a subsidiary of China National Building Materials Group. The partnership focuses on accelerating the industrialization of SunHydrogen’s photoelectrochemical hydrogen panels, with a near‑term goal of producing 1,000 full‑size modules.
"The hard work being done by our team in Coralville is what makes all of this possible. Austria is here to advance that work toward industrialization. Falko has spent his career moving across every part of the hydrogen industry and brings a rare end‑to‑end view of what it takes. Johannes brings world‑class product engineering experience from some of the most demanding development environments in the industry. And Tor Erik brings the operational and commercial reach to make sure our technology finds the right partners and markets when it's ready," said CEO Timothy Young.
Austria’s supportive hydrogen ecosystem and Europe’s binding adoption targets make the location strategic, positioning SunHydrogen to secure offtake agreements and navigate regulatory dynamics. The expansion signals the company’s transition from research and development to commercial scale, aligning with its goal to meet growing demand in Europe while supporting its U.S. pilot and manufacturing initiatives.
